Charles Philibert-Thiboutot’s stellar season continues with 4th-place finish in Switzerland
The Quebec native added another quick result to his 2022 campaign

Quebec’s Charles Philibert-Thiboutot has had a season to remember, and he continued his show of great form on Tuesday at the Spitzen Leichtathletik in Switzerland, where he ran to fourth place in the 1,500m. This result is just one of many strong runs Philibert-Thiboutot has laid down this season. He kicked the year off with a win and Canadian record at the B.A.A. 5K in Boston, raced a 1,500m-5,000m double at the World Athletics Championships in July and notched another national record in August, this time in the 2,000m. Philibert-Thiboutot has found tremendous success this year, and the season isn’t even over yet.

Philibert-Thiboutot’s season has been too good not to break down. He started 2022 with the B.A.A. 5K in Boston in April, where he took the win and ran a national 5K record of 13:35. Next up was the 5,000m at the Sound Running Track Meet in California, where he continued his strong early-season form with a tremendous PB of 13:12.76–a Quebec record and the fourth fastest 5,000m in Canadian history.

Just a week after his run in California, he charged to another PB, this time at the Canadian 10,000m Championships, running 28:11.81 and earning a second-place finish. A month later he was at the Canadian Outdoor Championships in B.C., where he won the 5,000m title. He followed that up with the 1,500m-5,000m double at the worlds a month later, and in August he set the national 2,000m record at a race in Quebec, where he ran an amazing 4:56.88.

As he noted on Instagram, his next race will be in the U.S., where he’ll race the 5th Avenue Mile in New York City on September 11. He started the year by stealing a big win at an American road race, and based on the season he’s been having, no one should be surprised if he sneaks in another similar result in New York.
