Vancouver Rock ‘n’ Roll half-marathon to debut Sunday
Competitor Group will host the inaugural running of their second Canadian event on Sunday in Vancouver alongside the 44-year-old Seawall 10K, the city’s oldest road race. Organizers are excited to work with the Lion’s Gate Road Runner’s in bringing to Rock ‘n’ Roll half-marathon to a city known for its music culture.
“We’re working with an event that’s 44-years-old—it’s the oldest race in Vancouver—and pairing it with an inaugural race at the same time,” says event director Alex Bennett. “We’re excited to take that race to the next level, running along the Seawall with the largest crowd it’s had in a long time.”
“We’re trying to highlight all the great local music. Vancouver is a huge music city and there have been some great international acts come out of Vancouver. We’re trying to highlight all the great up-and-coming acts that are there now.”
Bennett seems confident that his team is ready to put on a quality event, noting they recently wrapped up Rock ‘n’ Roll’s largest running event ever at the Oasis Montreal Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon, a race that saw 35,000 participants. Though the Vancouver race won’t see nearly as many competitors, the 12,500 runners is certainly not an underwhelming turnout for a race in its first running; there will be 10,000 entrants race the half-marathon and 2,500 10K racers.
The Vancouver event is also sponsored by Oasis.
