VIDEO: All in good fun at Toronto’s Santa Speedo Run

This year's run raised $30,000 for Sick Kids' Toys and Games Fund

Yesterday a band of scantily-clad runners in red bathing suits “briefly” took over the streets of Toronto’s Yorkville district for their annual Toronto Santa Speedo Run.

Head Santa Matt Freeman says that the run, a fundraiser for the Hospital for Sick Children’s Toys and Games Fund, has raised $30,000 this year alone, bringing its lifetime total to around $380,000.

The Speedo run starts and ends at Hemingway’s on Cumberland Avenue. The first run took place in 2005, and goes ahead every year regardless of the weather, though the route is typically less than 3K. And with temperatures hovering a little above freezing in Toronto recently, it wasn’t exactly balmy, but it could have been worse.

Each runner is asked to raise at least $250, and suits are generously provided by Speedo.
