WATCH: Japan’s hilarious handover fumble at World Relays

The Canadian men's 4x100m team anchored by Andre De Grasse failed to advance to the final

The Japanese 4x100m team had a bit of bad luck at IAAF World Relays in Yokohama, Japan yesterday, fumbling the third handover but somehow managing not to let the baton drop. However, by the time the team’s anchor Yoshihide Kiryu had a secure grip on it, he was outside the exchange zone, and after finishing in fourth position, the squad was disqualified. (Check out Yoki Koike’s smile while the whole thing is unfolding.)

That meant Canada moved up to third in their heat, which, despite a strong anchor leg by Andre De Grasse, was not good enough for them to advance to tomorrow’s final to defend their 2017 title. Only the top two teams in each of the three heats plus the next two fastest times advanced. Canada’s time of 38.76s was 11th overall.
