De Grasse shuts down 2018 outdoor season

The three-time Olympic medalist has suffered another hamstring injury that has forced him to take some downtime before returning to training

Andre De Grasse has shut down his 2018 outdoor season. The three-time Olympic medalist has suffered another hamstring injury that has forced him to take some downtime before returning to training.

This injury means De Grasse will no longer be able to compete in the NACAC Championships that are being held in Toronto this August. While the NACAC team had not been officially named, it’s likely that De Grasse would’ve been a member.

His official injury is reportedly a grade one strain in his right hamstring. The sprinter pulled up in the last 50 metres of the 200m semi-final on Saturday at the Canadian Track and Field Championships. De Grasse was third in the 100m final the night before.

The silver lining to De Grasse’s injury troubles is that 2018 is a known as an off year in track and field, meaning that there’s no major championship. De Grasse will focus on healing his injury and then begin looking forward for the 2019 World Championship in Doha.
