Michigan runners finish marathon relay under 2 hours

A group of 45 Michigan runners completed a 42.2K relay to run under two hours

A group of 45 runners took to the track on October 27 to run a sub-two hour marathon, relay style. In Holland, Michigan this group completed the 42.2K in 1:49:32.

Jon Ornee, the organizer of the event, was hit by a car while cycling in May 2019 and required surgery on his right arm. Following the crash, he’s taken on completing “one crazy adventure” every month for the rest of his life–and this sub-two-hour marathon was one of those adventures.

In honour of Eliud Kipchoge’s first ever sub-two-hour marathon, the 45 runners completed 210 by 200 metres to see if they could match or beat Kipchoge’s time. Ornee said via email that the event was a lot of fun and that the group got it done, finishing the relay in 1:49:32 (over 10 minutes faster than Kipchoge). Runners ranged in age from eight to 55 years old and ran between one and 26 legs. Ornee ran 26 of the 210 legs and says it took a serious toll on his body.
