This running sign sums up a young girl’s willpower and tenacity
“Coach once told me that I ran like a girl and I said that if he ran a little faster, he could too," reads one running sign that has gone viral on Twitter.
“Coach once told me that I ran like a girl, and I said that if he ran a little faster he could too,” reads a running-related sign that has gone viral on social media.
The sign, written on white cardboard with purple marker, is believed to have been spotted at the Women’s March on Jan. 21. According to the Women’s March website, five million people worldwide and one million in Washington, D.C. took part in the movement in support of women’s rights.

The quote originated from the now-retired U.S. soccer star Mia Hamm, a two-time Olympic gold medallist and FIFA Women’s World Cup champion. Hamm’s quote was “My coach said I ran like a girl, I said if he could run a little faster he could too.”
The two most widely-seen tweets containing the sign has so far received, cumulatively, more than 20,000 shares on Twitter. See select tweets and quoted tweets below.
