Strava adds additional privacy to users in update

You can now hide the start and finish of your run on the app

Strava has released a new update that provides users with additional safety features when uploading an activity. Previously, users could hide their GPS activities at a specific location. Now Strava has come out with an update to this feature, which allows users to hide the start and finish of their activity.

Regardless of location, the update allows runners to hide the map entirely or only hide the start and finish. You cannot apply the new feature to past uploads, as it will apply only to future uploads.

When viewing your activities, Strava has highlighted the hidden zones so you can still view where you started and finished. Sections hidden from the public are shown in grey, with visible sections of the same activity highlighted in orange. Users can edit their map visibility both on the mobile app and the web.

To add this feature to future activities, go to: “My Profile” >> “Privacy Controls” >> “Additional Controls” >> “Map Visibility”

Last month, Strava made its beacon safety feature available to all users after being behind a paywall since it was introduced. Beacon is Strava’s live location-sharing feature, which shares their live locations with up to three friends.

The company has strengthened its safety features in recent years to help give peace of mind when athletes head out on the road or trails.
