VIDEO: Myles Misener-Daley is leading the next generation of Canadian sprinters

After a break-out season, the triple OFSAA medalist and Canadian record holder discusses what's to come in 2019

Myles Misener-Daley is closing out a break-through track season. The 17 year-old grade 11 student set a Canadian U18 400m record of 45.99, and won all three flat sprint events (100m, 200m, 400m) at the 2018 OFSAA Championships.

After OFSAA, Misener-Daley was selected to represent Canada at both the Jamaica U18 Invitational, and the World Junior Championships. At the World Junior Championships in Finland, Misener-Daley made the 400m final despite being one of the youngest competitors in the event.

After his success this season, the high school student is already thinking about next summer, and has set his sights on making a senior national team in 2019.

If Misener-Daley continues his trajectory, he has a strong shot at representing Canada at the 2019 World Championships in Doha. Misener-Daley, who’s still technically a youth athlete, would be one of Canada’s youngest track and field representatives at the games.

The sprinter has also asserted his interest in the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo the following year.  The 400m runner currently trains with the Hamilton Olympic Club.

Misener-Daley looks up to the Canadian sprinters who are excelling on the world stage right now, particularly Andre De Grasse and Aaron Brown.  “I watch videos and take notes. They’re helping me without even knowing it.”
