Olympic gold medallist in car accident

asbel kipropOlympic gold medallist Asbel Kiprop nearly lost his life in a car accident in Kenya on Sunday.

The dominant 1500m runner was driving in Iten, a well known training area high in the mountains of the Rift Valley, when his car lost control around a sharp turn. Kiprop’s vehicle nearly went over a cliff, but was caught by a rock that stopped the accident from being fatal.

Kiprop is the reigning Olympic and world champion. He’s also among the fastest 1500m runners of all time, recording a 3:27.72 last summer. He sustained a minor neck injury, according to Flotrack, and has been released from hospital. His passenger, James Kangogo, also a 1500m runner, lost four teeth in the accident.
