The Ottawa Marathon has signed an agreement with Scotiabank to be the new title sponsor of the race, starting with the 2014 event.

Scotiabank will sponsor the marathon, half-marathon and charity program at the 2014 Tamarack Ottawa Race Weekend.

Many of Canada’s biggest road running events are already sponsored by Scotiabank — the Toronto Waterfront Marathon, the Vancouver Half-Marathon, the Blue Nose Marathon, the Calgary Marathon and the Montreal half and 5K. Ottawa will be the sixth event to be supported by Scotiabank.

“We are ecstatic to have Scotiabank, one of Canada’s biggest supporters of the sport of running, sign on as a title sponsor for our two longest distances and charity program,” said race director John Halvorsen. “We couldn’t have hoped for a better way to celebrate the 40th running of the Ottawa Marathon.”

The Ottawa Race Weekend in 2014 will be attracting two Boston Marathon champions. Geoffrey Mutai, who won in 2011 with the fastest marathon time ever (although not eligible for a world record because of Boston’s downhill course) will race in the 10K. Wesley Korir, who won in Boston in 2012 will race the marathon.

The races happen the weekend of May 24-25. All the events except the children’s race and the 2K are sold out and the event expects at attract 48,000 runners.
