Acai bowls explained

How is it pronounced?

acai1Acai is pronounced ah-sigh-EE.

What is it?

Acai berries are a purple, grape-shaped fruit, about an inch in circumference.

Where is it from?

Acai is native to Central and South America.

Why should you try it?

Though many sites will tout acai as having weight-loss benefits, doctors warn that this berry is not a fat-burning short cut. What does make acai unique is its high concentration of antioxidants, more than that of blueberries, which we tend to think of as a superfood. Acai berries also contain high levels of omega 3 and 6 fats, which aren’t usually seen in fruits. The berries are also rich in dietary fibre, vitamin C and B-complex vitamins.

How do you make it?

Acai is available in smoothie packages or powder at most health food stores. Here are some recipe ideas for inspiration.acai-bowl-with-coconut-hemp-hearts-chia-seeds-18
