Canada Army Run adds Vimy Challenge to honour 100th anniversary of historic battle

The Vimy Challenge will provide participants the opportunity to run both the 5K and (new for 2017) the 10K at the 10th annual Canada Army Run in Ottawa.

Canada Army Run

There will be much to celebrate at this year’s 10th anniversary of the Canada Army Run, already one of the country’s most popular running events. Ahead of this year’s event on Sunday, September 17th, organizers have already announced the addition of a 10K race which will take place at 8:45 a.m. in between the 5K, which starts at 8:00 a.m., and the half-marathon, at 9:30 a.m.

Last year and for the first time, the event offered the “Commander’s Challenge” which saw participants run both the 5K and the half-marathon on the same day. This option will again be offered in 2017.

Today, race director Major Gus Garant was on CTV Ottawa to make another exciting announcement. To celebrate the 100th year anniversary of the Battle of Vimy Ridge — in which 3,600 Canadian lost their lives — the Vimy Challenge will provide participants with the opportunity to run both the 5K and the 10K consecutively on the same morning.
