In the latest episode of The Shakeout Podcast, fitness columnist and former Canadian National Team member Alex Hutchinson joins host David Stol to guide you through your 2023 winter training.

Beginning his career as a physicist with a Ph.D. from the University of Cambridge, Hutchinson spent a few years as a researcher with the U.S. National Security Agency, working on quantum computing and nanomechanics. During that time, he ran as a miler for Canada.

This week, Hutchinson joins the show to discuss the science behind optimizing your off-season training, including the risk and reward of high-mileage training, how to avoid burnout, the future of AI in training plans, whether you’re making your marathon debut too early and so much more.
