The #1 running song, revealed
Search engine Whistle Out analyzed over 7,000 hours of music to come up with a list of this year's top running tracks
While some of us prefer to run listening to nothing but the rhythmic sounds of our breath and the steady beat of our footsteps, the majority of runners need some pump-up tunes to get them out the door. Search engine Whistle Out recently decided to find out which songs have been keeping our feet moving this year and have published a list of the top 25 running songs of 2021. Is your favourite on the list?

And the winner is…
The team at Whistle Out analyzed over 7,000 hours of music and nearly 1,000 running playlists. After sorting through all their data, the number one song runners have been listening to is Blinding Lights by The Weekend, which appeared in 96 playlists. “Its slow, atmospheric start perfectly matches your warm-up pace,” they explained, “and by the time the drums drop and the synthesizer hook kicks in, you’re already running to the beat.”
Head & Heart (featuring MNEK) by Joel Corry and MNEK took the second spot, appearing in 94 playlists, and third place went to Roses, the Imanbek Remix by SAINt JHN and Imanbek at 92 playlist appearances. Rounding out the top five were Tiësto’s The Business and Titanium by David Guetta and Sia.
The majority of the tracks that made the top 25 were contemporary, modern music, but there was one song that has stood the test of time and continues to inspire us to reach our potential: Eye of the Tiger by Survivor. Runners everywhere have been using this song to get them going since 1982, and even in 2021 it still appeared in 71 playlists. Check out the full list below.
