The 2017 Rotterdam Marathon put on a show to welcome in the last-place finisher on Sunday. And it was done in style.

Thousands of spectators greeted Kelly De Ridder (bib F1212) as she approached the marathon finish line. With confetti flying left and right, De Ridder crossed the marathon finish line in 5:58:17 according to race results. It’s surely a finish line experience that she will not soon forget.

The Zoetermeer, Netherlands resident then received the race’s medal for finishing. Appropriately, You’ll Never Walk Alone was playing in the background as De Ridder approached and ran through the finish line.

This past weekend was a busy one in the world of marathons. The Paris Marathon and Pyongyang Marathon were held in addition to Rotterdam kicking off a month that also features the Boston and London Marathons, the latter two part of the Abbott World Marathon Majors. Rotterdam is one of three large marathons in the Netherlands with the other two being Amsterdam and Eindhoven.
