The Canada Army Run: celebrating service and fitness
The annual Canada Army Run is returning to Ottawa on Sept. 17

The Canada Army Run is returning to the streets of Ottawa this September to celebrate service, fitness and camaraderie. Established to honour and support the men and women who serve in the Canadian Armed Forces, the run is an opportunity for Canadians to thank them for the work they do both at home and abroad.
More than just a typical race, the Canada Army run is an experience filled with energy, enthusiasm, and the military “esprit de corps.” Participants can choose between the 5K, 10K and half-marathon, as well as two unique same-day multi-distance challenges combining the 5K with either the 10K or half-marathon, making it accessible to runners of all skill levels. Spectators cheer on the runners along the route, and military personnel greet them at the finish line to drape the event’s classic dog tag medals around their necks.

When and where
This year’s in-person run will take place on Sunday, Sept. 17 in Ottawa. The races will start early on Sunday morning in the heart of the city, offering stunning views of iconic landmarks such as Parliament Hill, and will end close to the National War Memorial.
For those who can’t make it to Ottawa but who still want to be part of the event, organizers have brought back virtual race options. Virtual runners have between Sept. 8 and 29 to complete their chosen distance.

Supporting military causes
The primary purpose of the Canada Army Run is to demonstrate support and appreciation for the dedicated men and women who serve in the Canadian Armed Forces. The event serves as a platform to showcase the significant contributions of the military, foster a sense of community between civilians and soldiers, and promote physical fitness and well-being.
This year’s event will be supporting two organizations – Support Our Troops and Soldier On. These are the two charitable causes of the Canadian Armed Forces, which provide support, services and assistance to military members, veterans and their families. A portion of the proceeds from the event will go toward these organizations, and participants have the opportunity to fundraise as well, either individually or as a team.
