6 signs that you are dating a serious runner
Don't worry, this behaviour is normal
You may think you know your partner very well until you witness them before or after a run. Stressed, rushing around, frequent bathroom trips, plus leaving sweaty clothing around the house — these are all common, when you live with a runner. There’s no need to worry, as this behaviour is very normal to runners but maybe slightly unattractive and unromantic to an outsider.
They always have too much laundry
The laundry bin and hamper are full, and you just did a load a few days ago. When you are living with a runner, you can expect double the laundry. Runners can be messy and often leave sweaty sports bras, shorts, tights and socks around the house. You might even find the occasional running mask or gel packet that gets carelessly left in their clothing and washed in the machine.
They plan their week by their running schedule
Trying to make Sunday plans? Don’t bother, unless it allows them to do their long run in the morning, followed by post-run brunch. A runner’s training schedule is their bible – they need to follow it religiously or else.
You are always out of bananas
Who knew you lived with a monkey? Every time you want a banana they are all gone. When you ask your partner about where all the bananas went, they say, “I need them for before and after my runs… Don’t you know bananas are easily digestible and high in potassium?”
They are always on Strava
Why are they always on their phone? Don’t worry, they are just scrolling Strava. They feel the need to give kudos to all the newest activities on their feed, which is inspiring. There’s no better way to spend romantic time with your loved ones than showing them your PR medal on the ‘Main Street Sprint’ segment.
There are shoes everywhere
Your house is beginning to look like a Foot Locker. There are shoes everywhere, because the closet is full. The amount of shoes in your closet looks like you have 20 roommates. You’ve asked your partner to donate them and they say they can’t throw them out, they use that pair for rainy-day tempo runs.
Vacations are just race destinations
You’ve wanted to go to the Caribbean to escape the Canadian winter, but your partner insists that you go to Houston in January for its great weather and marathon. They can’t choose a vacation destination without the potential to do a race.
