Girls Talk: empowering female athletes for lifelong success

Join a panel of experts at London Western Track and Field Club to learn how to support the young female athletes in your life

Attention all London, Ont.-area athletes, parents, and coaches. London Western Track and Field Club proudly presents “GIRLS TALK,” an empowering event aimed at nurturing the potential of young female athletes. Join them on Tuesday, Sept. 26, for an evening of connection and education aimed at setting girls up for lifelong health, happiness and athletic success.

By the age of 14, girls are dropping out of sports at twice the rate that boys do. Over 50 per cent of girls abandon sports by the age of 17. The London Western Track and Field Club is trying to change this trend and provide female athletes, parents and coaches with the knowledge and resources necessary to navigate crucial conversations about body image, healthy eating, puberty and self-confidence.

Coaching kids: how to introduce children to running

Hosted by the club’s junior development coach, Amanda Truelove, this event features guest panellists Jessica White (MScFN, RD) and Jenna Schulz (MPT, PhD)–experts in sports nutrition and athlete development. They will be discussing topics including growth and development, intrinsic vs. extrinsic motivation, relative energy deficiency in sport (RED-S) and long-term athlete development. They will also explore the crucial aspect of sustainability in sport.
