After launching the limited-edition Marathon of Hope collection in May, Adidas Canada has raised $500,000 for the Terry Fox Foundation

In honour of the 40th anniversary of Terry Fox‘s Marathon of Hope, Adidas Canada has been selling a limited-edition collection of gear since May. This commemorative collection has included the Adidas Orion, the same model of shoe Fox wore during his run in 1980, and a number of t-shirts that feature photos of Fox and quotes from the Canadian icon. A new shirt was released on the Adidas Canada website on Monday, and the company is now half way to its ultimate goal of raising $1 million for the Terry Fox Foundation. One-hundred per cent of the proceeds raised from sales in this collection will be donated to the charity.

Before he began his Marathon of Hope, Fox reached out to Adidas and asked for help. The company responded by sending him 26 pairs of the Orion, which Fox sported every day on his cross-Canada run. The Orions were part of the first instalment of the collection that Adidas dropped in May, but the company plans on releasing several more items in the next few months.

The latest shirt released by Adidas has a simple design with a Fox quote on it. “I want to set an example that will never be forgotten,” the shirt reads. Fox accomplished that, and four decades after he set out on his cross-country run, it would be difficult to find a Canadian who doesn’t know his name or his story. Today, more than $750 million has been raised in Fox’s name around the world, and the Terry Fox Run is an annual tradition held every September across the country.

The Adidas campaign is three months in, and with three more to go and several gear drops remaining, it’s right on schedule to meet its fundraising goal. Still to come are a few more t-shirts, plus an Ultraboost DNA shoe, which Adidas says “reimagines a version that Terry Fox would wear today.” Check out the Terry Fox collection here, and learn more about Fox’s story and his foundation at terryfox.org
