Canadian teams race at world cross-country championships in China

This year’s world cross-country championships ran early this morning (local time) in Guiyang, China.

Canada was represented in both junior and senior races. Our senior women’s team placed 10th with Rachel Hannah leading the pack. She finished 25th. Natasha Wodak was close behind coming in 27th place. Hannah clocked 28:34 with Wodak seconds behind at 28:43. Our junior women’s team came 13th overall. That was led by Branna Macdougall. She finished 42nd.

In the junior men’s event, Canadian fans were watching for Justyn Knight. He ran strong finishing 25th in 25:22. The team placed 16th overall. Our senior men’s team was led by Kelly Wiebe. They placed 17th.

Ethiopian teams ran incredibly at the championships. They placed first in the junior’s women’s race as well as both men’s events outperforming Kenya, Bahrain, Eritrea and Uganda. Kenya placed first in the junior men’s.

The next world cross-country championships will be held in Kampala, Uganda in 2017.
